Leading on from Wimborne to the North of Dorset is the historic market town called Blandford Forum which is not far from Gillingham and Shaftesbury with its famous Gold Hill. Shaftesbury is situated in North Dorset on the Wiltshire County border with a well preserved Roman route to Salisbury in Wiltshire. Salisbury is Wiltshire’s capital City with its ancient famous Cathedral supporting the tallest spire in the U.K.

Next to Wiltshire is the County of Hampshire with the city of Winchester’s famous Cathedral, the longest in Europe built in 1079. Travelling south in Hampshire is Hampshire’s largest city Southampton. This is a major port and the closest city to the beautiful New Forest and the car ferry from Lymington to the unspoilt Isle of Wight. Continuing on the mainland is  New Milton with the small seaside villages of Milford on Sea and Barton on Sea.

Leaving Hampshire back into Dorset we arrive at Highcliffe and its castle and then onto  Christchurch with its ancient Christchurch Priory which is the oldest parish church in England and dates from Saxon times. Christchurch adjoins Bournemouth to the West and at one time Bournemouth and Christchurch were in the County of Hampshire but in 1974 local government reorganised the boundaries.
