Leaving Hampshire back into Dorset we arrive at Highcliffe and its castle and then onto  Christchurch with its ancient Christchurch Priory which is the oldest parish church in England and dates from Saxon times. Christchurch adjoins Bournemouth to the West and at one time Bournemouth and Christchurch were in the County of Hampshire but in 1974 local government reorganised the boundaries.
